The Lufkin man who made national headlines after crashing a rare million-dollar car into a South Texas saltwater lagoon in November recently bought a new one.
Andy House, 34, purchased the Bugatti Veyron two weeks ago but it won't be seen cruising the streets of Lufkin, he said in a text message Tuesday.
"Yes, I have purchased a new one but I will not have it shipped here," he said. "I purchased it for resale and will be having Elite Autos LLC (in Jonesboro, Ark.) sell the car for me."
The newly purchased Bugatti is a 2008 model, black with blue accents, while its water-logged counterpart was a 2006 charcoal-colored edition.
"I think it's the best color combo," House said. "It's the only 2008 in that color in the U.S."
House said he couldn't comment on the purchase price of the 2008 model because it will go up for sale next week.
While some are speculating that House purchased the new ride with insurance money from the accident, he said he has not gotten paid by the insurance company yet.
In November, he was driving the 2006 model along an Interstate 45 feeder in LaMarque when, distracted by a low-flying pelican, he swerved and lost control of the vehicle, according to a police report. The car came to rest in two feet of water, but House escaped uninjured.
"I had only owned that car for three weeks before the accident happened," he said. "It was a tragic loss!"
The Bugatti, topping out at 253 mph, was believed to be one of only 15 in the United States.
House owns Performance Auto Sales in Lufkin.
